1946, my 72 years ago plus two more. So are we meant to file this under "The More Things Change..."?

Or maybe "National Amnesia"?

'You [know about] "Black Panther" but not Fred Hampton.'

As Harry Belafonte lamented here in Syracuse nine years ago, the civil rights movement was only allowed to go so far. The US is built to withstand such movements and whatever it is that's going on now doesn't even begin to resemble that sort of movement.

Thank you, Luke. That's something i never knew about Orson Welles, and it was quite wonderful hearing that horrible story from him. I'm going to further torture myself by listening to the others you've linked for us. I am so sickened to be in this pink skin. So disgusted by the things I never realized were going on, daily, even though I was aware of the terrible/horrible things that are taken for granted regarding society's treatment of Black people. No idea! I'll never understand how, living in Milwaukee for my entire 66 years, I was so completely naive about this. WTF, people?! How has this behavior been allowed to continue? It is far past the time for bigoted men to get out of the way! We need people with actual feelings to be in charge and make this country what it should be. A true melting pot, open to all who are able to treat humans AND animals with care and love. One who cannot be kind to an animal is incapable of human kindness. Does Trump have any pets? There's the proof!

We have had 2 occasions of Black Lives Matter parades down our street, with cars driving two-by-two and everyone honking and smiling. My husband and I got to stand on our porch and wave to them - it was beautiful! I am physically unable to join any of the marches, so this was the closest I could get. If only I could be an Orson Welles!
